Shadow of the Winds
City: Daniel, WY,
About Us
Shadow of the Winds is a small farmstead sitting in the shadow of the Wind River Range at 7600’ in Daniel, Wyoming. After living in Jackson for some years and watching the grocery store shelves become empty after the pandemic first hit, we sought out property in 2020 that would enable us to live more self-sufficiently and sustainably. We are now a husband-and-wife operation of first-generation farmers and are passionate about farming regeneratively, producing our own food, and ensuring our animals are happy & healthy. We currently have growing flocks of heritage breed chickens, ducks, and guinea hens. We are expanding our apiary to have honey products in the near future.
Practices
Our birds free range on our ten acres of native pasture grasses and forbes between afternoon naps under the willows and aspens. They have access to feed when they want it, but prefer to spend their time scratching around in the pasture for insects and greens. In the winter, they are supplemented with fodder (sprouted wheat berries) to provide them with some greens.
