About Us
Our ranch is a third generation, Veteran owned operation located southeast of Jackson on the Hoback River (Fall River was one of the many names used for the river before the name was standardized). Our mission is to raise high quality lamb humanely, ethically and sustainably, grazing them on local pastures in the summer and feeding high quality, locally produced hay in the winter. We transitioned to Dorper Sheep in 2003 because they have excellent maternal characteristics and produce fast growing, heavily muscled lambs. Dorper sheep are a meat breed created in South Africa that produces high quality meat, often referred to as the Wagyu of sheep breeds, with a very subtle lamb taste. Dorper lamb has consistently won meat evaluation competitions at national livestock shows. We offer a variety of lamb cuts which are processed at a USDA inspected facility and are frozen in vacuum sealed packaging.
Practices
We employ intensive, rotational grazing practices with our Dorper sheep using portable electric fencing. Rotational grazing reduces the environmental impact and promotes healthy soil and plants while storing carbon. Although we are third generation ranchers, education continues to significantly influence our livestock husbandry. As technology and livestock management practices evolve, so do we. We utilize livestock management programs and electronic identification to manage all of our animals individually. Many of our breeding animals have been evaluated by South African judges and determined to adhere to the Dorper foundation breed standards, thus ensuring the highest quality lamb for our customers.
